Cameras coming to an IL construction zone near you

Springfield, Ill. – Security cameras will soon help Illinois state police find drivers speeding through construction zones.

The cameras will photograph people speeding; those drivers will then get in the mail a copy of the photo and a ticket for at least $375.

A law enacted last year allowed for the cameras; police are just now starting their pilot program. The cameras will be loaded onto vans and moved from place to place.

More than three dozen people were killed in work zones in Illinois in 2004, including two construction workers. In 2003, 44 people were killed, including five workers.
