St. Louis, MO. – Electricity demand reached an all-time peak Monday in the St. Louis area.
The Ameren Corporation expected to top 13,000 megawatts but fell shy at 12,930.
It was still the highest demand ever measured on the system.
Spokeswoman Susan Gallagher says it was also the second record in just a matter of days.
"In 2004 we set no demand peak record," she said. "This summer we've already set two, so it's been one hot summer."
Gallagher says while the system has had few problems handling the demand, company knows it will have to generate more electricity to keep up in the future.
