St. Louis, MO – Classes for the 37,000 students in St. Louis Public Schools start today (Monday).
The district is starting the school year with new curriculum programs for elementary, middle and high schools. It will also initiate an extended day program to help students in 3-8 grade who perform below grade level in reading and math.
Other districts starting include Bayless, Brentwood, Clayton, and Lindbergh.
This is the first day of school in Wellston since the state took over the district because of poor performance.
And students in Normandy and Belleville return to class with new dress codes. The uniform policy was voluntary in Normandy last school year but is now required. A judge last week refused to block the dress code for Belleville high school students from taking effect.
College students also report for the start of the fall semesterday today, at UM-St. Louis and Webster University .
