MO Highway Patrolman dies after being hit by truck

Dunn, MO – A Highway Patrol trooper died Thursday after being struck by a pickup truck in south-central Missouri.

Donald Floyd is the fourth Missouri trooper to die in the line of duty this year. That's an all-time high for the patrol.

Floyd, who would have turned 46 on Saturday, was hit while working with the agency's aircraft on speed enforcement along U.S. 60 in Texas County.

Floyd is the second Highway Patrol officer fatally injured while working along a highway in recent weeks. In southwest Missouri, Corporal Jay Sampietro was struck and killed August 17th on Interstate 44 east of Strafford. Sampietro was helping a crash reconstruction crew at the scene of an earlier fatality accident.

Gov. Matt Blunt ordered flags in Missouri to fly at half-staff to honor Floyd.
