Missouri drops Social Security number from driver's licenses

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, Mo. – Missouri driver's licenses will no longer have Social Security numbers on them.

Instead applicants will get a system-designated number.

The change is due to a federal law that bars the state from issuing a driver's license, permit or non-driver identification card using the social security number as license number.

Since July First, those obtaining or renewing a Missouri driver license need to show proof of lawful presence, identity and residency.
