Iowa diocese looking for missing priest in STL

By AP/KWMU

Davenport, Iowa – The Catholic diocese in Davenport, Iowa, is looking for a priest accused of sexually abusing children.

The Rev. William Wiebler has left a treatment program in St. Louis and has not made contact with church officials.

He faces several sexual abuse lawsuits. The diocese said Wiebler has admitted sexually abusing several minors, though he has not been criminally charged.

Church leaders in Iowa recently sent a deacon to St. Louis, but Wiebler has not been found at his home or the bakery where he worked.

Wiebler left the Davenport area in 1985 and has been accused of abuse dating to the 1970s and 1980s. He moved to St. Louis more than a year ago and was ordered by the diocese to stay in a treatment program and avoid contact with minors.
