St. Louis, MO – The British publication Legal Week is reporting that the St. Louis-based law firm Bryan Cave is in merger talks with Squire Sanders & Dempsey.

If such a merger happened, it would create one of the nation's largest firms, with 1,600 lawyers, and revenue topping $800 million.

Each firm has about 800 lawyers, which would make it a "merger of equals," according to Legal Week. Squire Sanders & Dempsey is based in Cleveland.

Bryan Cave was first founded as King, Phillips & Stewart in St. Louis in 1873.
