Boeing computer glitch sends workers home

St. Louis, MO. – Computer problems halted production of military planes at Boeing's defense headquarters in St. Louis Wednesday.

The company sent hundreds of first-shift workers home and canceled its
second shift.

The third shift was expected to work as scheduled, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said Boeing told all employees to report to work Thursday.

Workers at Boeing's St. Louis production lines make fighter jets such as the F/A-18 Super Hornet and the C-17 cargo plane.

Boeing spokeswoman Lynn Steinberg said technical crews have been working all day to resolve the problem. She said it doesn't appear anything "external" or "sinister" was the cause.
