First Lady visits St. Louis for fundraiser

St. Louis, MO. – First lady Laura Bush was in St. Louis today, attending a fund-raising luncheon for Senator Jim Talent.

The first-term Republican faces a challenge in November from Democrat
Claire McCaskill.

The president's wife told about 400 people at the fundraiser that no issue is more important than defending America -- and that thanks to the men and women in the U-S military the nation is winning the war on terror.

Talent himself did not attend the fund-raiser. He stayed in Washington to chair a meeting of a defense subcommittee. A spokesman for the senator said the luncheon was expected to raise about 200-thousand dollars for his campaign.
