St. Louis, MO – New numbers from the St. Louis Election Board show voters in far north and far south City favored the two challengers in this week's School Board election. Peter Downs and Donna Jones ousted incumbents Darnetta Clinkscale and James Buford.

An analysis by KWMU of the ward-by-ward totals shows Downs and Jones won 19 of the city's 28 wards. They won all but one of the city's wards that lie south of I-44.

And the challengers even won the 23rd Ward, which is where Mayor Francis Slay lives and is considered his base of support. Slay had endorsed Clinkscale and Buford in the race.

Most of the support for the incumbents was in the central corridor, along Highway 40 from downtown to Forest Park (including the Central West End). They also picked up the Wards Four and Five to the north.

And even though Downs won the mayor's ward, he did not win in his neighborhood. Soulard and the 7th ward went for Clinkscale and Buford.
