Jefferson City, MO – Missouri House Speaker Rod Jetton has created a special committee to look into immigration in the state. He wants to know how illegal immigrants are affecting the state's economy.

Jetton estimates tens of thousands of illegal immigrants live in Missouri. He also said numerous studies have shown that illegal immigration harms the economy.

The chair of the panel will be Republican Ed Emery. He says while it's a mostly federal issue, Missouri's immigration policy must follow that federal law while also protecting the state's best interests.
