State senator calls for Riverview Gardens audit

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – Missouri State Senator Tim Green is renewing his call for an audit of the Riverview Gardens school district finances.

Governor Matt Blunt refused Green's request to order such a state audit last year. Now, however, the district is reportedly under investigation by St. Louis County for the use of federal funds.

Green says audit would answer those questions and others about the management of the district

Teachers and students and parents have called that some of these teachers that have been with the district for years are not getting their contracts renewed or the school district's waiting too long so these experienced and tenured teachers are looking for new employment and a lot of questions are not being answered by employees of the district, Green said.

Riverview Gardens has a new majority on its school board, which also plans to ask for a state audit.

A spokeswoman for the Governor's office did not know if an audit would be ordered. A spokeswoman for the district did not return calls for this story.
