Cahokia police officer killed in crash

Cahokia, Ill. – The Cahokia police department is dealing today with its first-ever death in the line of duty.

Officer Jeremy Chambers, 26, was driving his squad car on Illinois Route 3 early Monday morning when a pickup truck crossed the center and hit him head-on. State police say alcohol was involved on the part of the driver going the wrong way.

Several other of Chambers' relatives were also in law enforcement, including his father and brother. The accident is still under investigation.

He was the first officer to die on duty since Cahokia's police force started 79 years ago.
