Highway worker killed on duty in Metro-East


Pontoon Beach, Ill. – A highway worker was struck and killed Wednesday while working at a construction site in the Metro-East.

Police say a Henry Heath, Junior was struck and killed by a trailer being hauled by a pickup truck that jackknifed near Pontoon Beach. It jackknifed after swerving to miss a stopped car.

Heath, 38, was from rural Jersey County and had worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for five years. He died at the scene of the accident.

Funeral arrangements are being arranged.
