St. Louis, MO – Arson is suspected in Thursday morning's fire that destroyed a condo complex that was under construction.

Investigators say a gasoline can was recovered from the debris and such an accelerant is suspected since the fire burned so fast.

It's estimated that the fire caused three million dollars in damage at Compton Gate Condominiums, at Grand & Flad. The buildings were under construction; the first tenants were to move in later this fall. It's a $10 million project, with losses estimated on Thursday at $3 million.

One of the project's developers, Ken Nuerenberger, told KWMU that the condos will be rebuilt. The project was to bring 30 condos and six town homes to the Shaw neighborhood.

Fire officials report the flames were so hot they melted nearby street lights, signs at a next-door fast food restaurant, and even the lights atop the fire trucks as they arrived.
