Proposed trail would link two main parks

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis – Civic leaders are getting details about a proposed trail linking two of the area's main parks.

The Great Rivers Greenway District wants to build a 14-mile foot and bike path between Forest Park and Creve Coeur Park.

It's part of a larger vision known as the River Ring, an interconnected system of greenways encircling the St. Louis metro area.

Project manager Patrick Owens says the trail would link business and recreational venues.

"You can leave Forest Park from their trail system, connect through Washington University and then stop at a number of locations along the Delmar business loop district for lunch, and then circle back to do more touring in Forest Park," Owens said.

The estimated $20 million project would be mainly funded with public money. Construction could take 15 to 20 years.
