UM curators seek more oversight of athletics

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis – Following an investigation into the resignation of University of Missouri basketball coach Quin Snyder this year, the system's governing board now wants more oversight of intercollegiate athletics.

The athletic directors from the system's four campuses were asked to give presentations to the university's Board of Curators Thursday.

Afterward, curator David Wasinger suggested forming a task force to assess any problems with athletics, and report back to the board.

"We as a board have received a lot of attention over the last few months, particularly as to the Columbia campus and frankly it's a concern of mine," Wasinger said. "I'm a new board member. I've been on this board about a year. This is the first time I've heard anything about the athletic department other than running from crisis to crisis."

The university's curators will consider the athletics department task force proposal Friday.
