Jefferson City, MO – The state of Missouri has sent a woman in Montana $233 for fielding more than a thousand phone calls from Medicaid recipients.

Last August, the state sent a letter to 339,000 Medicaid recipients, telling them their benefits were about to be cut. A 1-800 number given in the letter was one digit off, which sent those calls to Sharon Curtiss-Rivera. She uses the number to books concerts for a folk singer.

Some state workers were punished for the typo, ranging from reprimand to suspension without pay, though the state's Department of Social Services never identified the workers.
