Chicago – Newly unsealed transcripts in the trial of former Illinois Governor George Ryan show that a juror who convicted him brought documents into the troubled deliberations.
The transcripts say one of the documents juror Denise Peterson brought into deliberations was titled "Dealing with Difficult People."
The discovery that Peterson brought materials into the jury room prompted defense attorneys to argue that the documents might warrant throwing out the guilty verdict against Ryan.
But U.S. District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer spoke with Peterson by phone earlier this month and allowed the verdict to stand.
