St. Louis, MO. – Former Missouri Lieutenant Governor Harriett Woods says she doesn't want leukemia to stop her from teaching and pushing various causes.
She was recently released from a hospital and says she feels better... and doctors say she's in early remission.
"I measure it in how much time goes past us before I have to see them again because, basically, what we're doing is looking at blood counts to see whether my blood is fighting back, my blood cells," Woods says. "And they said, well, we won't have to see you for four weeks. That's a celebration."
Woods says she might not get to be as active as she was before getting sick.
Teaching, for example, might have to be part-time.
In 1984 Woods became Missouri's first-ever woman statewide office holder when she was elected Lieutenant Governor.
The 78-year old is also a commentator for KWMU.
