Strangling victim out of hospital

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – A 17-year-old Illinois girl who was attacked and left for dead last month has been moved to a rehabilitation center.

Officials at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis say Ashley Reeves was released earlier this week and sent to a private rehabilitation center in the area.

The Millstadt girl's former teacher, Sam Shelton, is accused of attacking her last month and leaving her for dead in a Belleville park.

He's free on bond after being charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated kidnapping.

Michelle Reeves, the girl's mother, said this week her daughter was in serious condition. She is being treated for brain trauma.

The mother says she saw the alleged attacker as mentor and not a threat to Ashley.
