Hillsboro, MO – A groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday in Jefferson County will mark the start of another construction project on Highway 21.
Crews will widen Route 21 from Hayden Road to Route A near Hillsboro.
It will go from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway.
Jefferson College is among the landmarks within that mile-and-a-half stretch.
The nearly $15 million dollar project represents the latest patch of Route 21 to be widened.
When it was a windy two-lane road, Highway 21 earned the nickname 'Blood Alley' for all the crashes and deaths there.
And while this widening also promises a safer road, it's also billed as congestion relief.
The stretch sees about 16,000 cars each day.
