St. Louis, MO – The petition to recall Alderman Freeman Bosley Sr. has come up short.

St. Louis Board of Elections chairman Ed Martin said the group turned in more than needed, but more than 700 signatures were deemed invalid.

More than 300 people also filed affidavits to withdraw their names.

But Martin said the group has until the end of the month to come up with the signatures.

"They can submit supplemental pages, supplemental petition pages with signatures and they can try to get over the required amount," Martin said. "Our role is administerial now. We sit back and see how many they get."

Martin said many of the invalid signatures came from people outside the third ward, or from those who were not registered to vote.

Several people are attempting to oust Bosley over an eminent domain issue.
