Heat blamed on 14 deaths in Missouri

St. Louis, MO – Health officials are blaming 14 deaths in Missouri on the heat wave that began July 12.

The state health department cites eleven deaths, but that does not include the deaths of three St. Louis men announced Wednesday. One of those men had power but his air conditioner was not plugged in.

Five of the deaths have occurred in St. Louis city and three in St. Louis County. Two have been reported in Jackson County and four others in outstate Missouri.

At least four of the deaths - three in St. Louis and one in De Soto - occurred in homes where power was lost after last week's storms. One of the other St. Louis victims had power at the time his body was found, but may not have had it when he died.

More hot weather is predicted for much of the state today and throughout the rest of week.
