Former SIU-Edwardsville professor gives biggest donation ever
Edwardsville, Ill. – A man who taught business at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in the 1960s and 70s has bequeathed the school the largest donation in its history.
The estate of Homer Cox left $2.4 million to the School of Business. The money will be used for scholarships.
Cox was a business professor who taught from 1967 until he retired in 1978. He died in May at the age of 93.
A spokesman for the SIUE Foundation says Cox was a regular donor to the university's annual fund-raiser, but there was never any indication Cox would donate such a large amount to the university.
Former Chancellor David Werner says he is surprised by the amount, but not by the act. He says Cox was very committed to the university and its students.
