East St. Louis, Ill. – A federal jury in East St. Louis has cleared a Kenyan teenager of charges that he threatened to blow up the Gateway Arch.

Jurors deliberated more than four hours Wednesday before acquitting 19-year-old Micah Akumu of two counts of threatening use of a weapon of mass destruction.

Witnesses testified that after a Collinsville police sergeant pulled Akumu over in a stolen vehicle last September, Akumu said he had two bombs in his St. Louis hotel room.

An FBI search of the hotel room uncovered no explosives.

A defense attorney argued the threats weren't credible and came from a troubled teenager.

Akumu received political asylum in 1999 when he came to the United States.
