St. Louis – Governor Blunt is back in Missouri after a secret fishing trip to Alaska.

The governor's office confirms that Blunt left last Saturday for Alaska and returned Wednesday. He went on vacation with Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, who is exploring a presidential run in 2008.

But Blunt spokesman Spence Jackson says that is no indication that Blunt is positioning himself as a potential vice presidential candidate.

If Blunt runs for anything in 2008, Jackson says it will be for governor.

While gone, Blunt transferred his gubernatorial powers to Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder. But Blunt's office did not acknowledge that until questioned about it Friday.

There's no word on whether Blunt caught any fish on his trip.
