Federal funding for Boeing C-17 secured

By AP/KWMU

Washington, D.C. – Funding for ten new Boeing C-17 aircraft will be included in the annual defense spending bill.

The more than two billion dollars will keep the production line open for the transport plane built in California and Missouri.

The program was in danger of shutting down last year after the Pentagon recommended buying no more C-17s beyond the 180 planned.

Production of the C-17 supports about 18-hundred jobs in Missouri, mostly at Chicago-based Boeing's St. Louis-based defense unit.
