St. Louis – Legislation that would re-name the East St. Louis Post Office after the late Katherine Dunham is a step closer to reality.
The U.S. House approved the measure Friday. The Senate will consider it next.
Dunham is a legendary dancer, choreographer and social activist who founded a center for performing arts in East St. Louis and lived in the city for many years. She died in May at the age of 96.
Democratic congressmen Lacy Clay of Missouri and Jerry Costello of Illinois introduced the legislation in the House to honor Dunham's achievements and legacy.
