Chrysler's new 2008 minivans to be built in Fenton

Detroit, MI – Chrysler unveiled its new minivans Sunday and said the car would be built at the company's plant in the St. Louis suburb of Fenton.

That announcement appears to calm fears that the Fenton plant might have been on a list of possible closures, despite promises from the company that it would spend $1 billion on upgrades at its two plants there.

Rumors of a shut-down started appearing after the company announced that its traditional holiday shut-down would last a few weeks longer than normal, and also when DaimlerChrysler management recently confirmed they were looking into cost-cutting measures.

The new minivans unveiled in Detroit Sunday include second row seats that can turn completely around to face the third row. They also will be built in Ontario, Canada.
