Tab for recent ice storm be in the millions

Springfield, MO – Officials say it is too early to put a cost on the ice storm that punished southwest Missouri more than a week ago, but it could be several million dollars.

For the Springfield area alone, Greene County Presiding Commissioner David Coonrod says he is hearing early estimates of up to $25 million in damages and recovery costs. But Coonrod stresses that is only speculation as officials continue with storm recovery.

Missouri cattlemen say damage to fences, ranches and livestock may be the worst on record from a storm.

Brent Bryant of the Missouri Cattlemen's Association says thousands of miles of fences were downed, animals injured and wells and ranch buildings damaged by ice and falling trees.
