Blunt pulls money for Planned Parenthood clinics

Jefferson City, MO – Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt this morning (Monday) announced that he's pulling funding for two Planned Parenthood clinics that were providing free health screenings for poor women.

At the announcement in Springfield, Blunt said two other organizations will step in to continue offering the screenings for breast cancer and cervical cancer.

Blunt says it's inappropriate for women to have to use an organization that also supports abortions for health screenings, and other providers can handle them.

Blunt also is proposing to increase the funding for the health screening program, which has so far provided screenings to about 8,000 women. Blunt says his proposal could help another 1,200.
