Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill plans to have her right knee replaced next week while Congress is in recess.

The knee has been a bother for years, but she has postponed it through her previous campaigns for Senate and governor. The surgery will be performed in St. Louis.

Doctors tell McCaskill it will take about a month to recover and that she will need crutches for a few weeks. McCaskill says she expects to be back at work when the Senate reconvenes after the Easter recess.
