St. Louis, MO – The chancellor of St. Louis Community College, Henry Shannon, announced his retirement Monday.

He'll step down from the St. Louis post at the end of August and then take a new job as president of Chaffey College in California.

Shannon leaves as the college gets ready to open a fourth campus, in Wildwood, in August.

"Of course, I have mixed emotions about leaving St. Louis Community College," said Shannon, in a statement. "The position at Chaffey offers an outstanding professional opportunity for which I can provide leadership to move the college to a multi-campus institution.

"It is time to take on new challenges."

Shannon began working at St. Louis Community College in 1983 as Dean of Student Services at the Forest Park campus; he was named president of the campus in 1992, and named chancellor of the entire college in January 2000 after serving as acting chancellor for four months.
