UM search committee to keep finalists' names for president secret

By KBIA / KWMU

Columbia, MO – The University of Missouri's presidential search committee will keep the names of all candidates confidential.

Committee members held an organizational meeting Monday and set guidelines and a timeline for the search to replace Elson Floyd.

Committee chair and MU Professor Frank Schmidt says the group will work to comply with the Sunshine laws, but he says the request for confidentiality is strong.

The committee will receive the names of three to five finalists from the Board of Curators within the next six weeks, and by early June the search committee will begin interviewing finalists. "The Board is actually going to carry out the first cut and identify three to five finalists," Schmidt said Monday. "And then we will evaluate those finalists in person and by their credentials and by contacting their references, and then come up with an individual evaluations of each one."

The 19 members of the advisory panel of faculty members, students, staff and alumni from Missouri's four campuses are being asked to sign an oath not to reveal the names of prospective candidates.
