Kieschnick re-elected president of Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod

St. Louis, Mo – The leader of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod will serve a third term as president.

Gerald Kieschnick was re-elected Sunday at the church's convention in Houston, gaining 52% of the vote.

Kieschnick, 64, has been president of the St. Louis-based church since 2001. The church has about 2.5 million.

The Reverend John Wohlrabe Junior of Virginia Beach, Virginia, came in second with 42% of the vote.

The Houston native served as president of the Synod's Texas District for 10 years before becoming the church's president.

He is a 1970 graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Ill. (currently located in Fort Wayne, Ind.).
