Three city of St. Louis residents die from heat

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – The area's extended heat wave has claimed three more lives. The city of St. Louis says today (Monday) that an 81 year old man, an 88 year old man and a 73 year old woman have died since last Thursday from causes linked to the heat.

One of the victims had no air conditioners or fans in his home, another had an air conditioner but it wasn't turned on and the third did have a working air conditioner on. Health officials have not released the names of the three victimes.

There have now been six deaths in the bi-state region caused by the recent weather conditions. Three Madison County men died last week from heat-related causes.

An excessive heat warning continues in the region until Wednesday night. Temperatures over 100 degrees are predicted for tomorrow and Wednesday.
