Cahokia, Ill. – There's no school today (Monday) for students in the Cahokia School District because teachers there have gone on strike.
Midnight was the teachers' union deadline for reaching a deal; the two sides are still apart on pay raises.
The union offered a 3.5% pay raise plus step increases. But School Board President Richard Sauget Jr. said Sunday the district had reaffirmed its original offer of 2.25% increases.
No negotiations have been scheduled.
