McKinley bridge to open in December

St. Louis, MO. – The dedication ceremony for McKinley Bridge Saturday, the Illinois Department of Transportation officials say it won't open to traffic until some time next month.
The bridge connects north St. Louis to Venice, Illinois, It was closed in 2001 because it was considered unsafe.
The opening was first projected for September, then moved back to this month, and now officials say the bridge will open some time in December.
I-DOT spokesman Brian Williamsen says the remaining work on the bridge is minor.
And he says the dedication ceremony scheduled for Saturday at 9:30 will give people a chance to see what's been done. He says the public will be able to walk on the bridge until 2 p.m.
The bridge work cost about $46-million and has taken four years.
It's expected to carry about 10,000 vehicles a day.
