Vets Homes get $4 million for generators

By Maria Hickey, KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – Missouri's seven veterans' homes are getting $4 million for electrical generators.

Governor Matt Blunt signed the legislation Thursday.

The appropriation is in response to the outages that affected veterans' homes over several days in July and December 2006.

St. Louis Veterans Home administrator Michael Barth the new generator will allow uninterrupted service for veterans even during an outage.

"The generator will cover all aspects of the building, whereas in previous years we had a generator that only covered certain aspects of the building; the major services," Barth said.

Barth says an outage two years ago forced the staff to move residents into one wing of the home.
