Deadline passes for candidates in Missouri to file for August primaries

By Marshall Griffin, KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – 51 candidates for public office in Missouri made it in to the Secretary of State's office on the final day they could register for the August primaries.

Michael Favazza of St. Louis was the last person to qualify as a candidate in any race, registering at about 10 minutes before 5:PM Tuesday.

He told KWMU's Marshall Griffin he wasn't deliberately trying to be the final qualifier.

"I just wanted to make sure I got here so I could be last on the ballot," Favazza said.

Griffin asked, "You want to be last on the ballot?"

"Yes, I do," Favazza replied.

"Do you think that will actually help you a little bit?" Griffin asked again.

"Not as much as being first, but being last is better than being stuck in the middle," Favazza said.

Favazza is running as a Democrat in the State House District 65 race.

In all, 487 people have filed to run for various state offices in Missouri's August 5th party primaries.
