Missouri House takes up state budget

Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri House takes up the 2009 state budget today.

House members begin going through amendments and debate for K-12 school funding, then take up university and community college needs.

Governor Blunt is proposing over $5 billion for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and nearly $1.3 billion for Higher Education for Fiscal Year 2009, which begins July 1st, 2008.

House Budget Chair Alan Icet (R, Wildwood) has limited debate on the entire state budget to 10 hours during the perfection stage, which is expected to last until Thursday.
