Natural resources director to quit ahead of Nixon inauguration

Jefferson City, Mo. – The director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources said he will not serve under Governor-elect Jay Nixon.

Doyle Childers said he'll resign by the time Nixon becomes governor.

Childers said his time at the department was consumed by fights with Nixon over a proposal to tear down a railroad bridge that crosses the Missouri River along the Katy Trail near Boonville and the cleanup of Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park after the Taum Sauk hydroelectric reservoir failed in 2005.

Childers said it's "no secret" that he and Nixon had been at odds.

A spokesman for Nixon declined comment.
