Local professor elected to Nat'l Academy of Sciences

By Rachel Lippmann, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – A University of Missouri-St. Louis biology professor has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences.

Robert Ricklefs has taught at the university for 14 years - his research focuses on evolutionary biology. He is the first UM St. Louis professor to receive the honor.

"His election is confirmation that we're doing something right," said biology department chair Peter Stevens. "I think to a certain extent, although obviously this is Bob's own work, the Department has provided him with a convenient base for the last few years, and I think it shows."

Ricklefs did his undergraduate work at Stanford University and got his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania.
