Police target speeders on I-270

By Bill Raack, St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis – Eight local police departments and the Missouri Highway Patrol will team up beginning today to crack down on speeding and aggressive driving on Interstate 270 in St. Louis.

There were about 1,700 auto accidents on I-270 last year. Revee White with the Missouri Department of Transportation says extra police patrols will try to reduce that number .and make driving on 270 a safer experience.

"During the summer months we want to increase law enforcement presence," White said. "Make sure that when you're out driving you see law enforcement, you know that the laws are going to be enforced, you need to drive the speed limit, you need to be wearing your seat belt and you should not be drinking alcohol while driving."

White says the so-called "High Enforcement Action Teams" will remain in place for the next three months.
