Hazelwood, Mo. – One woman is dead and three others, including two young children, are injured after the car they were in crashed soon after police tried to pull over the car's driver, a
suspected shoplifter.
It happened Tuesday afternoon in Hazelwood, when workers at a Family Dollar store called police to report a man had stuffed bottles of laundry detergent in his pants.
Police tried to pull the suspect's car over. The driver took off but police did not give chase.
However, the car crashed a short time later into a light pole.
A female passenger died about five hours later at a hospital. The male driver is in critical condition. Two small children in the car were admitted for observation.
