St. Louis – Ameren Missouri will present the results of an assessment of its proposed coal ash landfill site in Labadie, Missouri, at a public meeting on Wednesday night.

Ameren operates a coal-fired power plant in Labadie, about 35 miles west of St. Louis, and needs more space to dispose of coal waste.

A spokesman for the company said the study shows the 400 acre site near the Missouri River meets the standards for a utility waste landfill.

At the public meeting, Ameren will provide copies of their assessment of the site's geology and groundwater characteristics. The study will also be available at the public libraries in Union and Washington, Missouri, and on Ameren's website.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is currently considering whether or not to regulate coal ash as a hazardous waste.

The public has until Friday to comment on EPA's proposed regulations, and until December 20th to comment on Ameren's proposed landfill site.
