We Live Here returns June 21

St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU and PRX announce the third season of the awarding-winning podcast We Live Here, highlighted by a relaunch party Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 7-9 p.m. at ANEW.  The evening will feature a meet and greet with We Live Here hosts Tim Lloyd and Kameel Stanley, audio highlights and a preview of Season 3, and the music of DJ Agile.  Tickets, which include a drink and light fare, are $10 and can be purchased here

Our Podcast

We Live Here, Hosted by Tim Lloyd and Kameel Stanley, is an award-winning twice-monthly St. Louis-based podcast that keeps it real about race and class .. .for people somewhere on the woke spectrum.

Our Story

We Live Here was part of St. Louis Public Radio’s response to unrest in Ferguson following the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown on Aug. 9, 2014. Initially planned as a year long project, strong audience support prompted management to extend the project indefinitely.

Using in-depth journalism that ranges from watchdog reporting to deep personal narratives, We Live Here fosters less-siloed conversations about race and class. The show’s editorial focus brings public radio’s history of great audio storytelling into a fast growing digital medium, helping it develop new audiences while extending its core mission.

Our Future

We Live Here may be a tiny podcast, but it’s had a big impact. And, it returns for its third season this month. New episodes will start being pushed out June 13, and continue every other week through 2017.

The producers have spent months redeveloping the podcast to best serve its target audience -- people who want authentic stories about race and class that make them feel validated, connected and challenged.

We Live Here also has a new partner. It’s inked a three-year contract to be co-produced by PRX, the industry-leading audio creation and distribution company behind some of the most-loved shows like This American Life, Reveal and The Moth Radio Hour.

This year will also bring more engagement with the community, building off the success of the show’s “I Live Here” live storytelling event in summer 2016.

Our Accomplishments

  • Since it launched in early 2015, the show has been downloaded more than 320,000 times
  • Though the podcast is based in St. Louis and often focuses on local stories, it has a national audience. Three of every four listeners come from outside of our region.
  • Word is out about the podcast. The show’s producers have been featured in both live and taped national interviews this spring, including for a segment of The Takeaway (aired April 4) and To the Best of Our Knowledge (to air June 10).

Awards:

  • 2016 and 2017 Edward R Murrow Regional Award for audio documentary
  • 2017 EWA award for single news topic, broadcast
  • Champion of Justice Media Award, Legal Services of Eastern Missouri
