Broadway Performer Sarah Bolt Returns Home To St. Louis For Holiday Concert

(Courtesy Retreat to Broadway)

St. Louis native Sarah Bolt, best known for her role as Sister Mary Patrick in the Broadway production of Sister Act, joins Broadway performer Kathy Deitch (Wicked, Footloose) and Emmy-nominated Irish tenor Michael Londra on stage in Kirkwood this Sunday.

They will be performing a combination of Broadway and holiday songs in a benefit for Retreat to Broadway, a new non-profit that offers "personal renewal" retreats that include live theater experiences.

Bolt took voice lessons as a child and performed in school plays, but didn't consider Broadway as a career until her junior year of high school. (A fun anecdote -  her parents met while performing in a production of Godspell).

She studied musical theater at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she didn't receive a callback for a single musical.

"It taught me that this business is fickle," said Bolt, adding that the experience prepared her to accept rejection and move on with her life as a performer.

When she went to the final callback for the role of Sister Mary Patrick in Sister Act, Whoopi Goldberg (who produced the show) threw down her pen because Bolt looked so much like Sister Mary Patrick. Since she was in the seventh grade, people have said Bolt reminded them of Kathy Najimy, the actress who played Mary Patrick in the movie.
