City Election Commissioners Say They've Met Deadline

By H. Wicai, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Wednesday that while state law mandates that absentee balloting for next month's election was to begin more than a week ago, the city's absentee ballots still were not ready.
At a press conference Wednesday Sheila Greenbaum with the City Board of Election Commissioners attempted to clear up confusion.

She said that on Sept. 18 three questions were certified to the Board of Elections. She said 14 days later, absentee ballots were available by lunchtime. She added that means the board is in compliance with the Missouri statutes.

The city is still smarting from the chaos at local polls that resulted from the inactive voter list during the November 2000 election.
